Dreamwalkers:

Chapter 223

Andie’s smile widened into a grin. If she was right, this new power was everything she could have hoped for. If she was right, her confidence made it so that she responded to the world as though she were as light as a feather, but the world responded to her as though she was heavier than condensed lead.
Now she just needed a way back into the fight. Fortunately, she knew where to find one of those. “Blaze a path, my Confidence!
The usual road of flames did not appear. Instead, when she tried to extend her leg, she found the air itself pushing back against her. Yet, she stayed firmly rooted in place – as though she were pushing her entire body into her newfound foothold, not just her foot. Brilliant orange sparks began to emit from the point of resistance, slowly but steadily growing in intensity and number. Guided by instinct, she waited until the sparks had grown sufficiently restless, then relaxed and retracted her leg for a split second, only to suddenly and sharply kick it back into the sparks.
A thunderous, blazing explosion erupted out from the kick – detonating the sparks and sending Andie rocketing across the mindscape with frightening speed. Or perhaps confusing was a better adjective, given that Andie was moving too fast to track where she was going and what she was smashing through along the way.
A quick mid-air flip helped Andie reorient herself to be flying feet first, her right leg extended out in front of her but meeting no resistance until she began to brace herself for it. Then the sparks returned, bringing her to an almost instant halt – the sudden stop jump-starting the sparks into the same intensity they had been right before she’d launched herself.

A note from the author:

Nothing can beat an awakened dreamwalker. Not even another awakened dreamwalker.
